The Washington Post, August 18, 1993, p. E12
Excerpt from Bob Levey's Washington.

"Some day, some fine day...

"I won't have to hear another story like Frances Molefsky's. The other day, while parking at Tysons Corner Center, Frances noticed a kitten wandering around the first level of the main underground lot. Concerned for the kitten's safety, Frances spent a half-hour crawling under cars and behind pillars, trying to find the frightened animal. Her cloths and hands got full of oil in the process. But when Frances asked fellow humans for help, they all replied, 'Why bother? The cat'll just be killed by a car anyway,' or the ever-popular, 'I'm too busy.' Frances finally found the cat on her own. She named him Gizmo and gave him a permanent residence at her home in Burke. Nice humanitarian ending. A lot more humanitarian than some humans who forget what being human means."

Like a lot of stories in the Post, this article is only partially correct. Not everyone Frances approached refused to help. A couple of college students were of assistance, and construction workers gave Frances a carton to holdd Gizmo after he was rescued.
